DISCUSSIONS with SPAZ:
Celebrating 5 Years of
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS

By Stephen SPAZ Schnee

Interviewing your favorite artists can be a nerve-wracking thing.  I mean, how on earth are you supposed to be a level-headed, thoughtful journalist when you are really just a fan-boy at heart? The interviews are more than likely the ONLY chance you'll ever get to talk to these folks that have influenced your life, so how do you stay focused and just deal with the subject at hand (ie: whatever new release they are promoting) and not make yourself look stupid by slipping into 'blabbering idiot' mode? Well, it's not easy, my friends.  Because I truly am a blabbering idiot!

And what about those interviews with artists that you aren't that familiar with?  What do you say to a musician, actor or director that you have not followed?  Well, in my case, you do a heck of a lot of research so you don't end up looking as unprepared as you think you are!

Thankfully, all of my interviews have gone smoothly and professionally.  I've managed to hold off the 'fan boy' in me when speaking to artists that I love and I've been prepared and come off pretty knowledgeable when interviewing the folks that I'm not too familiar with.  Oh, well, there is that one un-named interviewee who was nice enough but was pretty unresponsive to most of my questions, making it seem like the longest 20 minutes of my life.  Oh, and there were the two interviews that somehow didn't record on my digital voice recorder.... But apart from those, it's been a total blast.

Doing these interviews IS as cool as you would think it its, but there's a lot of work that goes into making them happen.  From research to listening to or viewing the new release to coming up with decent questions and then transcribing the whole darn thing.... So, for every interview you read, there's at least six hours of work that goes into each and every one. Hopefully for you readers, those are hours well spent.

I've included jpgs of some of my favorite interviews below. There are a lot more where these came from but I didn't want to bore you too much. As of now, I've got 95 of them printed already and much more to come!  These are in no particular order....

You can't access the interviews using the jpgs here, unfortunately.  Many of them were done before I started putting them up on this blog.  You can access all of the EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS that are on the blog by clicking HERE if you would like to read some of them...

I hope you have enjoyed reading them as much as I've enjoyed putting them together.

My special thanks to Ryan Rainbolt, who continues to do great layouts for these interviews and makes my words look great...
